In April 2025, we were thrilled to install our second poem for the City of Boca Raton’s centennial celebration! Palm Trees Sway is our second installation, and we loved what Veronica Hatch, Public Art Coordinator for Public Art Boca shared about the installation:

“Palm Trees Sway is one of two installations in the City of Boca Raton’s public libraries. The significance of this artwork extends beyond colorful words on a wall; it serves as a reminder of the rich narratives that shape our community, how art can transform public spaces and where individual stories become a collective identity.

“Inspired by the ZipOde program by O, Miami and WLRN, Ode to Boca invites residents to contribute their own poetic expressions related to their lived experiences in Boca Raton. Providing an original prompt, zip codes are transformed into place-based poetry. We’ll hear from O, Miami in a moment as they share more about this transformative Centennial partnership.

“This Ode beautifully captures the essence of the Spanish River Library, celebrating the spirit of growth and learning inspired by the City’s natural beauty to celebrate Boca Raton’s first Century.

“Palm Trees Sway Plastic Poetry installation showcases the City’s commitment to sustainability practices in public art. It was created by South Florida based artist and Free Plastic Founder, Nathan Moyer who sourced plastic waste from local recycling and cleanup efforts. Moyer melted a total of 3322 grams/7.32lbs of recycled plastic waste, this is equivalent to 6,600 plastic straws, 1,110 bottle caps, or 133 single use water bottles. This is injected into 5-inch molds to create the poetic composition you see on this wall. This public art initiative emphasizes the City’s commitment and dedication to a cleaner, more resilient Boca Raton.

“Stay tuned for more poetic installations that will pop up in surprising locations throughout the City during the Centennial year and beyond through the Odes in Unexpected Places initiative.”
