Plastic Poetry 008 "The sky is giant like a whale in the ocean"

On October 28, 2022, Free Plastic and O, Miami installed their eighth in a series of public art works entitled Plastic Poetry. Plastic Poetry is a series of community activations that blends recycling plastics, plastic pollution, beach cleanups, public art, and poetry.

The text was written by Juan, a camper at Marjory Stoneman Douglas Biscayne Nature Center’s Summer by the Sea camp in 2022. The five-inch letters are rendered in 2.51 lbs of recycled post-consumer plastic and plastic pollution harvested from various beach cleanups held throughout Miami-Dade County in 2021 and 2022.

The Lovely Ocean

BY JUAN

The sky is giant like a whale in the ocean
it is so giant that you could sail across the world in it
but I prefer to spend time with people I love
