Plastic Poetry 020
Miami Beach Bandshell
In April 2025, Free Plastic and O, Miami installed their 22nd poem in a series of public art works entitled Plastic Poetry.
Plastic Poetry is a series of community activations that blends recycling plastic, plastic pollution, beach cleanups, public art, and poetry. The text was written by a Miami fourth grader and is part of O, Miami’s “Soy de todas partes” project which celebrates the richness and vitality of Miami’s majority-minority community.
The five-inch letters are rendered in 7.7 lbs of recycled post-consumer plastic and plastic pollution harvested from from various community cleanups & collection groups found throughout Miami-Dade County.

LOS EXTRAÑOS
BY MIAMI FOURTH GRADER
EXTRAÑOS, LOS BUENOS Y LOS MALOS
TIENEN CORAZÓN. LOS DOS SON DIFERENTES
PERO HUMANOS, FAMILIA NO SE ESCOGE
PERO AMAMOS, NOS AYUDAMOS
SIEMPRE COMO PODAMOS, AMIGOS
SE ECOGEN Y SON EXTRAÑOS PERO LOS
QUEREMOS Y NOS AYUDAMOS
NUESTRAS DIFERENCIAS CREAN EL MUNDO Y MUEVEN
MONTAÑAS, AGUA Y NUESTROS CORAZONES
